Tourism is the largest service industry in India, with a contribution of 6.23% to the national GDP and 8.78% of the total employment in India. India witnesses more than 5 million annual foreign tourist arrivals and 527 million domestic tourism visits. The tourism industry in India generated about US$100 billion in 2008 and that is expected to increase to US$275.5 billion by 2018 at a 9.4% annual growth rate. The Ministry of Tourism is the nodal agency for the development and promotion of tourism in India. It maintains the Incredible India campaign.

According to World Travel and Tourism Council, India will be the world's leading tourism hotspot, having the highest 10 year growth potential. The Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Report 2007 ranked tourism in India 6th in terms of price competitiveness and 39th in terms of safety and security.

However, India's tourism sector currently lags behind less endowed countries and faces serious challenges including shortage of hotel rooms. In 2007, there were only 25,000 tourist class hotel rooms in the whole of India. Among other factors hindering the growth of the tourism industry in India are stringent visa requirements and congested airports. Despite short and medium-term setbacks, tourism revenues are expected to surge by 42% from 2007 to 2017.

India has a growing medical tourism sector. The 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi are expected to significantly boost tourism in India.

Tourism in India has received a major boost in the past decade since the Indian Government realized the great potential of tourism of India during vacations. Tourism in Italy

With more than 43.7 million tourists a year, Italy is the fourth highest tourist earner, and fifth most visited country in the world, behind France , Spain , United States , and China . People mainly come to Italy for its rich art, cuisine, history, fashion and culture, its beautiful coastline and beaches, its mountains, and priceless ancient monuments, especially those from the Greek civilization and Roman civilization. Tourism is one of Italy's fastest growing and most profitable industrial sectors, with an estimated revenue of $42.7 billion.

Italy may not take up much space geographically on the globe, but it consistently ranks among the top vacation destinations on the planet. When last I checked a couple years ago, there were just under 40 million people spending some of their hard earned vacation money in Italy. And while you might suspect that all of those 40 million people are in the country at the same time you are, as you fight the crowds at the biggest attractions in Italy, in reality there’s a steady stream of visitors all year long and throughout the country.
Because of this constant influx of tourists, tourism in Italy is one of the country’s biggest income sources. But because it’s Italy we’re talking about, things don’t always work the way you’d like them to You might think, for instance, that the official Italian tourism website would be a wealth of information and staffed by attentive and responsive people eager to answer your every question. But you’d be wrong. Yes, there’s some good information there, but if you manage to get a reply from anyone in the tourism department you’re doing better than I am.So, toward that end, I’m going to put some links here to articles I’ve written that assist you in planning the perfect Italian vacation. I could write about Italy travel for the rest of my life , so this list isn’t comprehensive, but I think it’s a good place to start. If you have a question that isn’t answered by one of the articles on this list, please send me a message and let me know it’s possible I’ve already covered the topic but forgot to link it up here, and it’s also possible your question will make a great topic for a new article.

Tourism in Rome

Rome is one of the most visited cities in the world, with an average of 7-10 million tourists a year. The Colosseum and the Vatican Museums are the 39th and 37th most visited places in the world, according to a recent study. Other main sights in the city include the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, St Peter's Basilica, the Roman Forum, Castel Sant'Angelo, the Basilica of St. John Lateran, the Spanish Steps, Villa Borghese park, Piazza del Popolo, the Trastevere and the Janiculum.

United Kingdom Tourism Survey

The United Kingdom Tourism Survey is a national consumer survey measuring the volume and value of tourism trips taken by residents of the United Kingdom. It is jointly sponsored by VisitBritain, VisitScotland, Visit Wales and the Northern Ireland Tourist Board.

The survey covers trips away from home lasting one night or more taken by UK residents for the purpose of holidays, visits to friends and relatives, business and conferences or any other purpose. Tourism is measured in terms of volume and value .

The survey underwent a methodology change in May 2005, with the survey moving from a telephone survey to a faceto face survey methodology. The change was brought about because of doubts in the reliability of the survey data being produced by the telephone survey methodology.

Tips for saving money

While you travel over a country money isn't a detail. You have to make a budget because prices are higher and higher. A gret way for saving money is using Coupons and visit onlines stores where the prices is lower. Here I sent you a great site with a amazing variety for products.

Shopping Bargains

This is a great time to come to the USA for bargain shopping. The exchange rate for the dollar against most other currencies is at historically low levels. That means everything in the USA is now cheaper for foreign visitors. You can come to the USA for a vacation and pay low rates for your car rental and your hotel rooms. You can also bring along an empty suitcase and fill it with bargain priced merchandise to take back with you.

Why not consider a combination vacation and shopping excursion to the USA? I know that many people are already coming to New York City to take advantage of the Christmas shopping possibilities. There are plenty of other places in the USA that offer great vacation opportunities as well as excellent shopping opportunities.

Medical Tourism USA

Many American patients visit South or Central American countries like Brazil, Argentina or Costa Rica for cosmetic treatments, as they can travel cost effectively and can avail themselves of advanced cosmetic surgery. Mexico is a popular destination for American patients who need primary and dental care. Dental Tourism developed rapidly as Americans traveled to Central American countries such as Costa Rica for dental treatments not covered by their insurance. It is estimated that about 40% of today's medical tourism from the USA is for dental work. Costa Rica, is a popular place for American medical tourists to travel to in order to receive quality dental care at about half the price.

According to a study completed in November 2007, by the National Center for Policy Analysis , most American patients obtain medical treatment in Mexico and other Latin American countries. Currently, countries like India and Thailand provide state of the art amenities for critical treatments like hip or knee replacements and cardiac surgery. Some other popular destinations are Singapore, Belgium and South Africa. Many people from Northern and Western Europe visit Central and Eastern Europe for low priced medical and dental care.

Tourism is big business. It is one of the world's largest industries and in many regions the single largest source of investment and employment. While it does not have the same 'smokestack' image as the manufacturing industry, it is by no means environmentally benign, generating significant levels of pollution and consuming considerable amounts of natural resources. Europe is the world’s favourite tourist destination and so faces considerable challenges in making its tourist industry more environmentally friendly. One of the biggest beneficiaries of a more sustainable tourism industry will be the industry itself fewer people will want to visit a region where mass tourism has blighted the countryside and polluted the beaches.

Supporting European tourism

Tourism comprises a wide variety of products and destinations and involves many different stakeholders, both public and private, with areas of competence very decentralised, often at regional and local levels. Tourism has a great potential as regards contributing to the achievement of several major EU objectives, such as sustainable development, economic growth, employment as well as economic and social cohesion.

Tourism Jobs in Europe

There are all kinds of employment opportunities in the tourism industry to be had all over Europe. There are jobs friendly and professional manner; not always the easiest thing in the world to do. Secondly, you need to be able to connect with the tourists in some way to put them at ease and make them feel at home. Particularly in areas where North American tourists are common, this second criterion can help you get your foot in the door. For many tourists, a familiar face and accent goes a long way towards making them feel at home and people who run tourist venues recognize this fact.

Tourism jobs are remarkably similar the world over. The work you do may be slightly different, but the tourists themselves are the same. A Japanese tourist is the same in the US or in Germany, and an American tourist is the same in Canada as in France. If you have worked in the hospitality industry in North America, you are already going to be pretty familiar with what to expect from the job in terms of perks and headaches.

Tourism in Thailand

The tourism industry in Thailand truly took off when US soldiers started to arrive in the 1960s for Rest and Recuperation during the Vietnam war period. Coinciding, international mass tourism sharply increased during the same period due to the rising standard of living, more people acquiring more free time and due to improvements in technology making it possible to travel further, faster, cheaper and in greater numbers, epitomised by the Boeing 747 which first flew commercially in 1970.Thailand was one of the major players in Asia to capitalise on this then-new trend.

Tourist numbers have grown from 336,000 foreign visitors and 54,000 R&R soldiers in 1967 to over 14 million international guests visiting Thailand in 2007. The average duration of their stay in 2007 was 9.19 days, generating an estimated 547,782 million Thai baht, around 11 billion Euro. In 2006, Thailand was the 18th most visited country in the World Tourism rankings with 13.9 million visitors. France, comparable to Thailand in size and population, led the list with over 79 million foreign tourists.

According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand, 55% of the tourists in 2007 came from the Asia Pacific region, Japanese and Malaysians forming the two biggest groups. The largest groups of Western tourists come from the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, the United States and Scandinavia. The number of tourists arriving from the Middle East and Russia is on the rise. Around 55% of Thailand's tourists are return visitors. The peak period is during the Christmas and New Year holidays when Western tourists flee the cold conditions back home.

Domestic tourism has also grown significantly in the past decade. Revenues from domestic tourism have gone from 187,898 million baht in 1998 to 380,417 million baht in 2007.

Asian tourists primarily visit Thailand for Bangkok and the historical, natural and cultural sights in its vicinity. Western tourists not only visit Bangkok and surroundings but in addition many travel down to the southern beaches and islands. The North is the main region for trekking and adventure travel with its diverse ethnic minority groups and forested mountains. The region receiving less tourists is Isan in the north east. To facilitate foreign visitors, the Thai government established a separate tourism police with offices in the major tourist areas and its own central emergency telephone number.

It can't be denied that sex tourism also contributes to arrival numbers. Although officially illegal, prostitution in Thailand is monitored and regulated by the government to stem the spread of STD's and to prevent excesses. Prostitution catering to foreigners is believed to be around 20% of the total prostitution scene in Thailand, and is concentrated in a few major red-light districts such as Pattaya, Patpong and Patong Beach

Attractions

Thailand offers a great variety of attractions. These include diving sites, sandy beaches, hundreds of tropical islands, varied nightlife, archaeological sites, museums, hill tribes, exceptional flora and bird life, palaces, a huge amount of Buddhist temples and several World Heritage sites. Many tourists follow courses during their stay in Thailand. Popular are classes in Thai cooking, Buddhism and traditional Thai massage. Thai national festivals range from the fun for
all water splashing Songkran to the almost fairytale like quality of Loy Krathong. Many localities in Thailand also have their own festivals. Famous are the Elephant Round up in Surin, the Rocket Festival in Yasothon and the curious Phi Ta Khon festival in Dan Sai.

Thai cuisine has become deservedly famous worldwide with its enthusiastic use of fresh herbs and spices. From an inexpensive plate of delicious Som tam at a simple street stall upcountry to a modern take on Thai cuisine in the gourmet restaurants of Bangkok, it's very difficult not to eat well in Thailand.

Only the most austere ascetics can resist shopping when in Thailand. Bangkok is renowned for its main shopping malls down town , offering an astounding variety of international and local brands. Towards the north of the city, and easily reached by skytrain or underground, is Chatuchak Weekend Market. It is possibly the largest market in the world, selling everything from household items to live, and sometimes endangered, animals. The Pratunam Market downtown, is nearly totally specialised in fabrics and clothing. The night markets in the Silom area and on Khaosan Road are mainly tourist orientated, selling items such as T-shirts, handicrafts, counterfeit watches and sunglasses. In the vicinity of Bangkok one can find several visually stunning floating markets such as the one in Damnoen Saduak. The Sunday Evening Walking Street Market, held on Rachadamnoen road inside the old city, must be the shopping highlight of a visit to Chiang Mai up in northern Thailand. It attracts many locals as well as foreigners. The Night Bazaar is Chiang Mai's more tourist orientated market, sprawling over several city blocks just east of the old city walls towards the river.

Climate

Thailand predominantly has a tropical wet and dry or savannah climate while the South and the eastern tip of the East have a tropical monsoon climate.

Most of Thailand experiences three seasons:

* The cool dry season from November till February is most excellent up north with temperatures in December for Chiang Mai averaging around 15 Celsius at night time and going up to around 28 Celsius during daytime with clear sunny skies. Higher up in the mountains, temperatures can even drop down to near freezing at night. In Bangkok and in the central and north eastern plains of Thailand, midday temperatures during the cool dry season average around 30 Celsius.
* The hot dry season from March till May can see daytime temperatures in the mid to high 30s. This is the time for holding festivals to mark the coming of the rainy season.
* The rainy season from May to October has daytime temperatures in the low 30s with night-time temperatures in the mid to high 20s. Rain showers occur mainly late in the afternoon or early in the evening.

Deeper south on the Kra Isthmus with its tropical monsoon climate, daytime temperatures the year round tend to hover around 31 Celsius with only a marked increase in rainfall during the monsoons. The west coast is affected by monsoon from May to October, the south-east coast of the isthmus is affected from October to January

Travel insurance for trips to America

I've written about travel insurance before but mostly from the American perspective. This article, though, made me realize that health insurance would be even more critical if you were traveling to the US.

In America, we know healthcare is expensive and we pray we have insurance. My students are always shocked when I tell them my aunt's heart attack story. She spent several hours in the ER and had some stuff done. I don't even know what exactly but she went home the same day. When the bill came she almost had another heart attack it was for $120,000.00. She has insurance.

TOURISM IN AMERICA TOUR TO AMERICA TRAVEL TO AMERICA VISIT TO AMERICA

My students in Korea are always shocked. I end up writing the number on the board because they have trouble believing it. Anyhow, this story makes it seem like Canadians would be similarly shocked.

According to the study, a four day stay in a U.S. hospital for an appendectomy could cost $39,400 US, with only $1,600 Cdn covered by a government health insurance plan . A one day stay in a U.S. hospital for a broken arm and wrist could cost $32,600, with only $400 covered by a GHIP.

So they talk about Canadians getting health insurance for visits to the US. Certainly Koreans would also want to think about insurance as I guess most people coming to the US should

According to a story on CNN today, the number of foreign visitors to the U.S. is down 10 percent since the year 2000. Considering that foreign tourism to the U.S. is worth nearly 100 million dollars per year, this is cause for concern. Apparently we're not being very nice or accommodating to people wanting to visit the U.S., projecting an image of Fortress America.

Now, I understand the need for border security, etc. Of course, we can't let anyone who claims to have a yen to see the Grand Canyon or the Smithsonian in without some reasonable checking to ensure he is who he says he is. It's not the procedures that the tourism industry objects to it's the manner in which these procedures are carried out, and the fact that the U.S. government doesn't seem to see what the problem is.

This afternoon, I bought beer at the supermarket. Well, stout really. Former TMC editor Erik Lounsbury and his wife are coming over for dinner on Saturday night, and they drink Guinness. The supermarket at which I shop has a checks system in place for consumers buying alcohol the check yourself out process is halted, with a polite computerized voice telling you to Please wait for attendant assistance. The clerk behind the main system looked over at me, ascertained that I was over 21, and allowed the process to continue. If I had looked to be in my early to mid 20s she would have asked me for picture identification. It was a hassle free process, but it accomplished what it needed to the supermarket made sure it didn't sell beer to a minor.

According to the methods of the U.S. government with regards to foreign tourists, this is what would have happened: an alarm would have sounded, a spotlight would have descended on me, and three armed officials would have approached, at which time I would have been taken to a small room, frisked and asked brusquely why I wanted to buy the beer. Three hours would have passed, and by the time I was finished the security process I would have been ready to swap the beer for a bottle of vodka and a shot glass.

According to the U.S. travel industry, we're selling a product: American tourism. The numbers don't lie. It's a huge contribution to the U.S. economy. The industry argues that while we of course need to maintain stringent security policies, the government needs to carry out these policies in a customer friendly manner. They're right.

Trying to avoid making incoming visitors wait in hours long lines would be a first step. Embarking on a public relations campaign to lure tourists by playing up the good exchange rate for foreign visitors, hotel and airline specials, highlighting special destinations and informing visitors that security policies aren't so bad after all would be a huge help.

The Federal Government spent a measly $10 million last year to lure foreign visitors. Contrast that to the $250 per year the Australian government spends to attract visitors. See a problem here? If we continue to send a message that we don't want international visitors here, they'll be sure not to come. And shorter waiting lines on Space Mountain for American vacationers will be small comfort.

Tourism in Canada

As a prosperous nation, Canada boasts a large domestic and foreign tourist industry. The second largest country in the world, Canada's incredible geographical variety is a significant tourist attracter. Canada's three largest cities, Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal are major metropolitan areas, well known for their culture and diversity. Canadian historic sites across the nation are also important to the tourist industry.

Canada's provinces and territories

British Columbia

British Columbia is Canada's westernmost province, along the Pacific Ocean. The winters in the coastal areas are relatively warm compared to the rest of Canada. British Columbia is broken into 6 regions:

* Vancouver, Coast & Mountains
* Thompson Okanagan
* Cariboo Coast Chilcotin
* Northern British Columbia
* Kootenay Rockies
* Vancouver Island

British Columbia (BC) is Canada's most mountainous province, boasting some of the most spectacular alpine scenery in the world. Not surprising then that alpine skiing is a major draw for the province. The province has about 33 large ski resorts spread out from Vancouver Island to the Alberta border. Whistler, British Columbia, nestled in the rugged Coast Mountains, is consistently ranked as the ski resort destination in North America and will co host the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

Vancouver, the largest Canadian metropolitan area west of Toronto, is one of Canada's most multi cultural cities, with a large proportion of people of Asian origin . Being a harbour city, Vancouver enjoys beautiful landscapes of mountains and ocean.

Alberta

Alberta is a province in Canada's western prairies next to the Rocky Mountains. Its two major cities are Calgary and Edmonton, the provincial capital. Edmonton is wellknown for West Edmonton Mall, the largest mall in North America. Another world class attraction is the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology in Drumheller, housing the largest collection of dinosaur fossils under one roof in the world. Alberta also contains significant natural scenery, including 5 of Canada's 13 UNESCO World heritage sites. These are Banff and Jasper National Parks, Waterton Glacier International Peace Park, Wood Buffalo National Park, Dinosaur Provincial Park and Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump. Alberta has no provincial sales tax.

Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan offers two major cities, Regina and Saskatoon. Regina is home to one of Canada's most significant attractions, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Academy at Depot Division where visitors can view the Sergeant Major's Parade held weekdays and the seasonal Sunset Retreat Ceremonies. Regina is also home to the RCMP Heritage Centre which opened in May 2007.

Manitoba

Manitoba was the 5th province to enter confederation in 1870. The province is home to many lakes and rivers with over 14.5% of the land are covered by lakes. This offers many opportunities for outdoor recreation, hunting, fishing, boating, some of the finest beaches in North America. The province is a four season travel destination offering cross country and downhill skiing opportunities, as well as many miles of groomed ski doo trails. Churchill on the Hudson Bay is a popular attraction due to the large polar bear and beluga whale population. The capital city Winnipeg with a population of near 700,000 offers many cultural and artistic events, museums and year round festivals. Other cities with more than 10,000 people are Brandon, Thompson, Portage la Prairie, Selkirk and Steinbach.
